London Contrast
London Contrast.
The one and only thing that drew me to this composition was the contrast between the industrial looking building (Tate Modern) and the quaint looking town/village houses in the foreground, perfectly paired with cobblestone - the contrast is unmatched. This is Bankside, in London. This specific location is called Cardinal Cap Alley.
Cardinal Cap Alley is a small street located in the Southwark district of London, England. It runs between Park Street and Borough High Street, near the south bank of the River Thames. The alley takes its name from a tavern which used to be in the area called Cardinal's Hat.
Bankside was originally an area of marshland and pasture, but it developed rapidly in the Middle Ages as a hub of trade and commerce. The area was home to several important industries, including brewing, tanning, and dyeing, and it became a thriving centre of industry and culture. Bankside was also home to several theatres, including the famous Globe Theatre, which was owned by William Shakespeare and his company of actors.
Bankside has undergone a major transformation. The area has been redeveloped and revitalised, and it is now a thriving hub of art, culture, and commerce. Today, Bankside is home to several museums, galleries, and theatres, as well as a vibrant food and drink scene. The area has retained much of its historic character, and it remains an important part of London's cultural landscape.
